AUFTRITT UND WIRKUNG

APPEARANCE AND EFFECT

Human interaction is a bit like flying a plane:
During contact flight you react to what you see coming.
When the visibility is not good enough, it is in fact useful if you know
how to perform an instrument flight.
Non-verbal signals are the gauges in the cockpit of human interaction.

A lot of things are being said long before the first word is spoken.
Even the effect of a word depends only to a small extent on the content of what has been said. Hence it is not so much the ‘what’ (the content) but the ‘how’ that determines the response. Consciously perceiving nonverbal signals and a reliable interpretation of the emotions linked to them, allows us to assess a situation more quickly and to react adequately. The discrepancy between what is being said and what is meant can be overcome so that the original wishes and intentions can be identified more easily.
For centuries people have tried to classify different types of personality in order to achieve an improved understanding for somebody’s action. Studying the most important personality structures makes it easier to deal with people.
But no matter what you present, at the end of the day you always present yourself. So what is it, that makes an impression with the people you meet? Is it possible to learn or teach something like charisma?

Usually charismatic people are described as integrating extraordinary attraction, quick understanding, a feeling for what is important, high sensitivity and the ability to see things through. Neither does charisma come by birth nor is there a faculty for applied charisma yet. The basis for charismatic authority is an emotional and not a rational one.
